Beyond a Reasonable Doubt Project

Who We Are

Beyond Reasonable Doubt Project (BRDP) is dedicated to reviewing claims of wrongful conviction, examining overlooked evidence, and pursuing truth through independent case review and investigation.

Every year, individuals across the country maintain their innocence while facing significant barriers to obtaining meaningful review of their convictions. Access to investigators, experts, legal resources, and advocacy is often limited or entirely unavailable.

BRDP exists to help bridge that gap.

We believe that every claim should be evaluated on its facts, evidence, and merit. While not every conviction is wrongful, every credible claim deserves to be heard.

Our mission is not to overturn convictions at all costs.

Our mission is to pursue truth, accountability, and justice wherever the evidence leads.

Because justice does not end at conviction.

Why We Were Founded

Beyond Reasonable Doubt Project was founded after witnessing firsthand how difficult it can be for incarcerated individuals to obtain meaningful review of their convictions once the legal process has ended.

One of the cases that inspired BRDP involved Colorado inmate. For years, this inmate has maintained his innocence and alleged that significant evidence, witnesses, and investigative leads had never been fully examined. As his case was reviewed, questions emerged regarding issues that commonly appear in wrongful conviction claims across the country.

According to records and case materials reviewed by those familiar with his case, concerns included:

  • Potential witnesses who were never interviewed.
  • Family members who may have possessed relevant information but were not contacted.
  • Surveillance footage that allegedly existed but was never obtained or reviewed.
  • Timeline discrepancies that were not fully explored.
  • Alternative explanations and investigative leads that were not pursued.
  • Questions surrounding forensic evidence and expert testimony presented during trial.

Years later, additional concerns surfaced regarding testimony provided by a forensic analyst connected to multiple criminal cases, raising broader questions about the reliability of certain forensic conclusions used in convictions.

Whether every claim ultimately proves true is not what led to the creation of BRDP.

What mattered was the realization that once a conviction occurs, many individuals lack the resources, funding, legal assistance, investigators, or advocacy necessary to have legitimate questions re-examined.

Justice should not depend solely on who has money, connections, or access to professional assistance.

BRDP was founded on the belief that credible claims deserve review. We believe evidence should be examined, witnesses should be heard, and unanswered questions should be investigated.

Our goal is not to prove innocence at all costs.

Our goal is to pursue truth.

Case Review Process

At Beyond Reasonable Doubt Project, we understand that submitting a case for review can be an emotional and deeply personal decision. Our goal is to provide a fair, thorough, and objective review process while remaining transparent about what applicants can expect.

Step 1: Application Submission

Applicants, family members, attorneys, or other authorized individuals may submit a Case Review Application along with any supporting documentation available.

Supporting documentation may include:

  • • Court records
  • • Trial transcripts
  • • Police reports
  • • Appeals documents
  • • Clemency applications
  • • Psychological evaluations
  • • Expert reports
  • • Witness statements
  • • Other relevant materials

Step 2: Preliminary Screening

Once received, applications undergo an initial screening to determine whether the case falls within BRDP’s mission and available resources.

Factors considered may include:

  • • Claims of actual innocence
  • • Newly discovered evidence
  • • Questions regarding forensic evidence
  • • Witness recantations
  • • Potential investigative deficiencies
  • • Constitutional or procedural concerns
  • • Availability of supporting documentation

Submission of an application does not guarantee acceptance for full review.

Step 3: Case Assessment

If a case advances beyond preliminary screening, available records and evidence will be reviewed to identify potential investigative leads, unanswered questions, or areas requiring further examination.

Additional records or information may be requested during this phase.

Step 4: Investigation and Resource Review

When appropriate and resources allow, BRDP may conduct limited investigative activities, including:

  • • Record analysis
  • • Witness identification
  • • Witness interviews
  • • Timeline reconstruction
  • • Evidence review
  • • Referral to additional resources

BRDP does not provide legal representation and cannot file court motions on behalf of applicants.

Step 5: Findings and Recommendations

Upon completion of review, BRDP may provide recommendations regarding potential next steps, additional investigation, legal resources, or other avenues available to the applicant.

Because every case is unique, outcomes and timelines vary significantly.

Our commitment is not to achieve a specific result, but to pursue truth through objective review and investigation.
